Introduction

This web site is provided as a resource Toronto Free-Net Linux and BSD members. As with most TFN initiatives, the maintenance of this site is a volunteer effort. Any submissions, suggestions, or error corrections regarding this site are always welcome.

First off, we should say a word or two about the overall level of support that Linux and BSD users can expect from Toronto Free-Net. It would be impossible for even the most deep-pocketed Internet Service Provider to provide comprehensive technical assistance for the myriad of Linux/BSD renditions, versions, and distributions out there - and almost impossible for a largely volunteer non-profit organization like Toronto Free-Net.

But don't dispare! Actually, the fact that TFN support won't instantly dismiss a Linux or BSD user as "unsupported", pretty much puts them well ahead of most other ISPs in the city. Still, Toronto Free-Net is a community effort - much like the development of Linux and BSD themselves - so getting assistance with a technical issue may take a little work on the part of the member.

What you will get from Toronto Free-Net is confirmation that your Internet connection is physically working. This information, along with the login information you received when you opened your account and the documentation distributed with your Linux or BSD distribution, should be enough to assist you in addressing any connection issues which arise.

From there, we would encourage all new or perspective Toronto-based Linux and BSD users to establish their own support networks. To seek out advice from their neighbourhood Linux or BSD gurus, and to take advantage of User Groups, both local and online. Some of the other resources listed on the Links page of this site.
